To assist students by financially supporting the most disadvantaged young children that participate in Post -16 education and training, ensuring that low income is not a barrier to progression.
There are two types of Bursary Fund: a Vulnerable Bursary and a Discretionary Bursary.
Those who qualify for this level of bursary could receive up to £1200 per year if they are in the following defined vulnerable groups: in care; care leavers; young people in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit and disabled young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance who are also in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.
These types of bursary are targeted to young people who have a low family income. The assistance that is provided will best fit the needs and circumstances of students, assisting those who face the greatest financial barriers to education in their daily lives.
All students will be contacted at the beginning of the year to introduce the facility and process. Application forms are available from Mrs Sims in the Sixth Form Office. The form needs to be completed and returned with proof of income, such as a Tax Credit Award Notice. Each application is assessed by the Bursary Panel (Assistant Headteacher - KS5, Bursar, Sixth Form Administrator and a Parent Governor) to confirm the level of bursary that can be offered.
Once a decision has been made a letter will confirm the bursary amount that can be offered and the way in which it will be provided. If a monetary payment is going to be made to the student then the confirmation letter will confirm the criteria that needs to be maintained to continue eligibility for that payment, for example a level of attendance.
Those that have qualified for a bursary in Year 12 need to apply again in Year 13 to ensure their continued eligibility.
